The flag of the Dominican Republic features a white cross dividing the field into four rectangles: two blue (upper left and lower right) and two red (upper right and lower left).
Between 1822 and 1844, the Dominican Republic was occupied by Haiti. The country's flag was created by the independence movement and is based on the colors of the Haitian flag. The white cross is also intended to symbolize the country's Christian faith.
