Engelbrektsons Flag Factory was founded in 1885 and has since then supplied Sweden with flags.
For over 80 years, the company has been located in Norr Mälarstrand, where the Pettersson brothers ran the company for 40 years until 2008 when their daughter took over.
As of November 15, 2016, the store moved to larger premises with a central location at Rådmansgatan 75 in Stockholm.
In 1839, future sea captain and flag manufacturer Engelbrecht Engelbrektson was born in the village of Hova in Västergötland. At only 13 years old, he went to sea where he quickly rose in rank and worked as a captain on ships that traveled between England and Australia, and around the world several times. At the age of 40, in 1879, he went ashore in Gothenburg where he returned to his hometown of Hova after a few years.
In 1885, he founded a decoration agency in Örebro, which was a great interest. Ten years later, he moved the agency to Stockholm under the name Stockholms fest- & dekorationersbyrå, which later changed its name to the now-famous Engelbrektsons Flaggaffär.
Using trains as the new means of transport, Engelbrecht Engelbrektson decorated railway stations from Ystad to Haparanda. These flag decorations were ordered and paid for by the state when the new modern railways and their stations were inaugurated.
Engelbrekston became widely known for his red Turkish cap he always wore and appreciated for his cheerful mood and wide circle of acquaintances.
Even King Oscar knew the decorator Engelbrektson, whom he affectionately called "the little Turk".

E. Engelbrektson's two sons worked actively in the company and when the father died in 1910 at the age of 71, the younger son
Knut Engelbrektson took over. The flag factory was run by Knut until his death in 1957. The only daughter, Elsa (Pippi) Engelbrektson,
never worked at the factory and was therefore not the one to take over the company. Instead, another female relative,
Elsa Persson, who had worked at the factory since she was young, did. She worked for Engelbrektson for a total of 50 years.
Harry Svensson then took over, new to the flag business.
In 1967, Torsten Pettersson started working at Engelbrektsons Flag Factory and in 1973 he and his brother took over the company.
Together they ran it for over 40 years and were commissioned to decorate the funeral of King Gustaf VI Adolf and
the wedding of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia in 1976. It was with the wedding that the Swedish flag got its real breakthrough and
popularity that it still has today. During the Pettersson brothers' time, they also took over other flag factories
which made the company grow. Their daughter Helena took over the flag company in 2008 and still owns it today.
The company then had the honor of sewing up Victoria and Daniel's flag for their wedding in 2010, called Vasaslupen.
