The country's flag consists of nine horizontal stripes in white and blue, with a white square in the upper left corner. Inside the square is a yellow sun featuring a face and sixteen rays.
Uruguay's flag was created following the country's independence and was adopted in 1830. The blue and white stripes symbolize the country's original provinces, while the sun represents freedom and independence. The flag has retained its basic design since 1830 and remains an important symbol of the country.
