The Romani flag was adopted in 1971. The blue-green colours of the flag had been adopted at a congress in Bucharest as early as 1933, but in order to emphasise the historical connection of the Romani people to India, it was agreed to add a wheel. The red wheel also symbolises the migration from India and the progress of the Romani people. The blue colour symbolises heaven (spiritual values) while the green colour symbolises the earth.
