Guinea's flag is a tricolor in the Pan-African colors of red, yellow, and green, with the red band positioned closest to the hoist.
Guinea adopted the flag upon gaining independence from France in 1958. The independence movement adopted the colors from the flag of Ghana, which was adopted in 1957. The flag's design, featuring three vertical bands of equal width, is derived from the French flag and recalls the country's time as a French colony.
