The flag of Ecuador features three horizontal bands, a yellow one at the top occupying half the flag, and blue and red bands below. The national coat of arms appears in the center.
In 1860, Ecuador adopted the flag of the former Gran Colombia as its national flag. Both Venezuela and Colombia have flags sharing the same historical origins as Ecuador's. The flag was modified in 1900 with the addition of the national coat of arms. Consequently, the flag used by the country's citizens looks identical to the flag of Colombia.
