The flag of Benin consists of three rectangular fields, two horizontal bands in yellow and red, and a vertical green band at the hoist, the edge closest to the flagpole.
Benin's current flag is a return to the original flag adopted in 1959, before it was replaced by a green flag with a red star in 1975 under the Marxist regime. The original flag was reinstated on August 1, 1990, after the regime was deposed.
