The flag of Argentina consists of three horizontal stripes: two light blue ones at the top and bottom, and a white one in the middle. In the center of the white stripe is a golden sun, the "Sol de Mayo" (Sun of May), with thirtytwo rays.
The Argentine flag was created in 1812 by Manuel Belgrano during the War of Independence against Spain. The sun in the center, the Sol de Mayo, was added in 1818, it represents the "Sun of May" that appeared during the independence demonstration in May, 1810.
