The flag of North Macedonia is red and features a yellow sun with eight rays.
Following independence from Yugoslavia, a flag was introduced in 1992 featuring a yellow sun with sixteen rays, the so called Star of Vergina. This led to a dispute with Greece, which considered the symbol to be exclusively Greek. In 1995, following pressure from Greece, the design was changed to the current version.
